Primula, is a very large genus of around 500 species in the primrose family, Primulaceae. The genus has a wide distribution, but the majority, about half the species, are native to the Himalayas. They grow in varied habitats, some are excellent rock garden plants, while others thrive in deep, fertile soil in semi-shade. The majority is not drought tolerant.

Propagation:

Division in spring or fall.

Seed - sown in January.

Seed not covered and stored at 20°C (68°F) until germination. If there is no germination in a month, a 3 - 4 week cooling period below 4°C (40°F) could be helpful, before bringing the seed back to 15 - 20°C (68°F) for germination.

Needs very good drainage. Seedlings grown from seed labeled 'Wharfedale Village' in a variety of white, pink and violet shades.
