Helleborus is a genus of around 20 species in the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, native to Eurasia, the majority on the Balkan peninsula. They are evergreen plants that thrive in fertile, fairly alkaline soil in semi shade.
Division in spring.
Seed - sown in fall or late winter.
Seed has very limited viability and should be sown as soon as possible after it is collected. It should be stored in a refrigerator until it is sown.
Seed is covered and stored at 22°C+ (72°F) for 6 weeks and then stored outside until germination.
Helleborus x hybridus are hybrids between H. orientalis and other Helleborus species.
