Lily of the valley is the only species of the genus Convallaria, formerly in the lily family, but currently in the asparagus family, Asparagaceae. It is a woodland plant, native to beech woods in Europe and Asia.
Propagation:
Division in spring or autumn.
Seed – needs cold stratification, best sown in September - November.
Seed just covered and stored outside until germination. Germination can be slow and the seed may germinate a year later, so it‘s important to not throw it away prematurely. Seed has short viability so it‘s important to sow it as soon as possible. Optimum germination temperature is 15°C (60°F)
Beautiful woodland plant that grows best in humus rich soil, in dappled shade. Toxic plant.
