Cerastium is a genus of around 100 species in the Caryophyllaceae family,  with a global distribution, although most species are native to temperate regions in the northern hemisphere. They grow best in full sun in dry, poor soils.

Propagation:

Division in spring.

Basal cuttings.

A stalk without buds is torn off at the base and planted in soil mixed with pumice and kept in a sheltered spot out of strong sunlight until the cutting is rooted.

Seed sown in March.

Seed just covered and kept at 20°C (68°F) until germination. After germination it should be kept at a lower temperature with plenty of light so the plants won't become lanky.

Very hardy plant that is smothered in flowers when in bloom. Flowers for a prolonged time. Very similar to C. tomentosum, but the petals on C. biebersteinii have deeper slits.
