Aquilegia is a genus in the family Ranunculaceae. They are hardy plants that prefer fairly moist soil and semi-shade. However, the genus includes a few alpine plants that need full sun and well drained soil.
Seed sown in February - March.
Seed just covered and kept at 15-20°C (60-68°F) until germination. After germination it should be kept at a lower temperature with plenty of light so the plants won't become lanky.
Old hybrids that originated in 1950 and have been popular garden plants ever since. Large, bicoloured flowers in a great variety of colours. Self-seeds moderately, but hybridizes with other species. Hardy. Tall plants that need support.
