Aquilegia is a genus in the family Ranunculaceae. They are hardy plants that prefer fairly moist soil and semi-shade. However, the genus includes a few alpine plants that need full sun and well drained soil.
Propagation:
Seed – seed germinates slowly and at low temperatures, best sown in September - November.
Seed not covered and stored outside until germination. Germination can be slow, seed may germinate a year later so it‘s important to not throw it away prematurely.
A compact alpine that is well suited to rock gardens. It grows in limestone screes and crevices in the Rocky Mountains. It needs well drained, gritty soil, preferably rich in lime. Hardy.
