Aquilegia is a genus in the family Ranunculaceae. They are  hardy plants that prefer fairly moist soil and semi-shade. However, the genus includes a few alpine plants that need full sun and well drained soil.

Propagation:

Seed sown in January - March.

Seed just covered and kept at 20°C (68°F) until germination which can be slow. After germination it should be kept at a lower temperature with plenty of light so the plants won't become lanky.

A very compact columbine that is not quite as hardy as the species. Needs fertile, well drained soil and sun or partial shade. Doesn't self seed.
