Aquilegia is a genus in the family Ranunculaceae. They are  hardy plants that prefer fairly moist soil and semi-shade. However, the genus includes a few alpine plants that need full sun and well drained soil.

Propagation:

Seed sown in January - March.

Seed just covered and kept at 20°C (68°F) until germination which can be slow. After germination it should be kept at a lower temperature with plenty of light so the plants won't become lanky.

Low growing columbine that is hardy and fairly shade tolerant. Tolerates most soil types as long as they are not too dense and wet.
