Himalayan may apple was formerly classified in the genus Podophyllum, but was recently moved to a new genus, Sinopodophyllum of which it is the only species. It is native to the Himalaya Mountains and W-China. It is not drought tolerant and grows best in fertile, moist soil in sun or partial shade. All pats of the plant are toxic. The variety 'Majus' is larger than the species.
