Moss campion is native to Iceland where it grows both in barren low-land areas and mountains. It forms tight, green cusions that become smothered in small pink flowers in May - June. It is hardy where conditions are right, but can be a bit tricky in cultivation. It grew in a rock wall in my old garden where it thrived and flowered every year. It is well suited to rock gardens as it needs full sun and gritty, well drained soil.
